"Blackbird"

The Beatles

Charles Yang & Peter Dugan

This video gives me chills every single time I watch it. Amidst creative blocks, Charles Yang's and Peter Dugan's genuine passion, crispy accuracy and contagious energy never fail to remind me why I am a musician.

"Chaconne" in G minor

Tomaso Antonio Vitali

David Oistrach

I discovered this piece during my first few months back in college having taken a year off. This piece, specifically this recording of Oistrach, grabs my heart in a way no other song ever has. My heart is at the mercy of this recording and I cannot picture myself living a live worth living that doesn't include it. To me this piece represents all that is means to be human. It represents the most overwhelming passion, sadness, grief, and...truly it represents an essence, and atmosphere which cannot be expressed in words. Is it a feeling which is reaching out its arms from the past, or from a future that will never be, in a world we'll never know?

Sibelius Violin Concerto

Hilary Hahn

When this recording was first released I watched it at least 5 times over. My eyes were glued to the screen in awe of the musical mastery and raw emotion consistently woven throughout the performance. This recording keeps me going when the days get tough. I hope you take the time to appreciate the full video, it is an incredible experience!! It may even make you want to dance during the final movement :)

"Sonata No. 2 in B flat minor, Op. 36"

Rachmaninoff

Daniel Hsu

I don't know how else to describe it so here it goes: My heart feels the textures and colors of squares, triangles, rectangles and other random lines and gestures. These shapes are outlined in a sketched style of black, and are filled in roughly (similar to the texture a crayon creates, including the waxy feeling) with a randomized assortment of colors such as yellow, light blue, lavender, light green, with the deep rumblies of reds, deep browns, blacks, and shouts of jagged shapes and harsher textures ever so often. All with an off-white backdrop.

These are wonderful things to experience while studying or getting ready to practice an instrument.

All in all, this piece sparks my mind and heart in extremely pleasant ways. I hope you enjoy it as well.
